Meet Your Local Community Police Officers

Working Together Making Safer Communities

The Scottish Police Service has a long and proud tradition of service to the community, and is renowned throughout the world for its efficiency, fairness and support. A police officer in Strathclyde shares in that tradition and has the satisfaction of dealing with people, protecting them and earning their respect.

The work of the police can be best described as maintaining law and order, protecting members of the public and their property, preventing crime and investigating crime committed against the community. However, there are other duties, some of which are unpleasant, and they demand the highest qualities in a person.

On this page you will find information on our two well known local police officers and an insight into their jobs.  Their  overriding concerns however, is to service the community here in Neilston and the surrounding areas. PC's Tom Kay and John Kelsey share a passion in community policing (Getting Back To Basics) and their constant involvement in education, police surgeries and rural activities amongst many other services endorse this.

Both Officers were required to apply for the post of Community Policeman and they were highly delighted to be given the opportunity to serve in these roles and once again get to know the local folk in this rural area.

Their responsibilities include the following:-

  • Attending calls to assist the public
  • Preparing crime reports and other paperwork
  • Taking statements
  • Making enquiries into crimes and offences
  • Conducting searches
  • STEP talks (Safety training & Education for Primary Schools) Neilston Primary, St Thomas's and Uplawmoor Schools
